On Elbrus the weather can turn Arctic. Very warm and wind-proof clothes are necessary for the ascent including both inner and outer waterproof gloves/mittens, duvet jacket, fleece and thermals. Double boots would be useful on Elbrus (…) but would not be comfortable. Stiff, mountain boots suitable for winter mountaineering are probably the best compromise. You will also need an ice axe and crampons; ski sticks are an optional extra. We also would like you to take a lightweight harness with karabiner.

The weather in Elbrus region is changeable, and conditions can deteriorate rapidly in case of a storm. Be prepared for temperatures between -7C - +21C with a chance of rain or snow. Temperatures could fall to -20C higher up on the mountain and you may encounter severe winds. Like any large mountain, Mt. Elbrus creates its own weather. There can be serious storms on the mountain, while the next valley is in bright sunshine.

Papiers officiels

Vêtements

Tête

Mains

Pieds / Chaussures

Nota Bene : Cool feet could force you to turn back, or result in frostbite. We strongly recommend plastic boots. The only but very important advantage of plastic boots is that they may be dried easily on field. If you have your leather boots wet on the first day most likely they will stay wet for the whole trip. Wet boots may cause problems. In many cases leather boots may be good enough but it strongly depends on their model, quality and the way you treat them.

Climbing Equipement Shops

D'après : elbrus.net.

There are three equipment shops in the area:

The best selection and quality of the equipment you can find at the “Alpindustria” shop. There are modern cloths and climbing equipment from such famous brands like “The North Face”, “Lowe Alpine”, “Black Diamond”, “Salewa” and etc. Accordingly prices are quite high - actually the western level. At the “Elbrus Navigator” shop you can find equipment made in Russia and Eastern Europe . Prices are reasonable. There are existed unknown brands at the “Vertical” shop, but if you are not fond of labels you can find quite good quality cloths and climbing equipment with acceptable price there.

“Alpindustria” and “Elbrus Navigator” have climbing equipment rental as well. Actually you can find any kind of gear you might need. Approximate prices for some equipment per unit per day:
